The region is ideal for growing coffee with deep, fertile volcanic soils, plenty of rainfall, a comfortable climate all year round and an elevation of 1800m.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe conditions are so good that farmers get two harvests a year: the early harvest in May-June and the late harvest in October-November.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eSustainable farming is very important to the members of the Cooperative. Farmers are encouraged to plant shade trees, and they boost the soil biodiversity - and their incomes - by planting other crops alongside their coffee trees, including maize, potatoes, beans, tea, and macadamias.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThis microlot shows you what Kenyan coffee is all about, and features some of the most famous local varietals, including Batian, Ruiru-11, SL 28 and SL 34.
